Beyond this, the screenplay by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais doesn't do much with the story's darker possibilities, and it sounds a much too cloying note when both Charlie and his dad become sweet on the father's spunky girlfriend (Corinne Bohrer, in a Teri Garr role). This presents the newly youthful Marshall with the danger of being shipped back to a woman he can't stand and forced to behave as her son.
''I'm gonna kill him.'' Neither film had a mother figure on hand to witness the personality switch, but ''Vice Versa'' does give Marshall an ex-wife (Jane Kaczmarek) with whom Charlie usually lives. ''Is he famous?'' someone asks the driver, upon seeing Charlie alight from his car. He fools around with the department-store merchandise, can't find his office and looks blank when his friends and co-workers use words like ''feasible'' and ''enigma.''Ĭharlie, for his part, barks orders at his teachers and summons limousines to drive him around town. Soon Marshall has lost his driven, workaholic look and turned into his blithe 11-year-old son Charlie (Fred Savage). Reinhold plays a Chicago department-store executive named Marshall Seymour who is on a buying trip to Bangkok when he accidentally happens upon a stolen religious artifact and brings it home.
